My husband is poor, I want divorce —Wife

An Area Court at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved the Islamic marriage between a couple, Toyin Ajibola and Bashirat Mohammed on grounds of lack of money.

The presiding judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, while delivering ruling said that even though Toyin did not want to divorce his wife, she still needed to move on and not be left stranded.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he, therefore, dissolved their marriage and granted custody of the three children from their union to the wife.

The court also ordered the woman to observe the three months iddah (waiting) period before remarrying.

Ajumonbi ordered Toyin to be responsible for the feeding of their children.

“The defendant should have unrestricted access to their children, while the plaintiff should always make their children available any time the defendant requested to see them,” the judge said.

Earlier, Bashirat had applied for divorce saying that she was tired of her marriage to her husband due to paucity of fund and her husband’s irresponsibility.

“I want the court to grant me divorce so that I can have rest of mind,” she said.

The husband, however, told the court that he was still interested in his wife even though he was financially handicapped.

“I have been trying hard to get money to feed my family, but couldn’t.

“It is so painful that I can’t get money to visit her and the children when they left home,” he said.

Petrol From Dangote Refinery to Hit Market on Sunday: Price Unveiled.

The eagerly awaited Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol from Dangote Refinery, is scheduled to enter the Nigerian market on Sunday, September 15th. Sources cited by Businessday indicate that the refinery in Lagos State will begin distributing its refined petrol to marketers throughout Nigeria.

To ensure everything goes smoothly, marketers have been advised to send their trucks to the refinery today (Friday) to start the loading process. This initiative is expected to greatly enhance the country's fuel supply, lessen reliance on imported fuel, and ease the difficulties faced by consumers.

However, Naija News reports that, according to these sources, petrol prices in the market will remain unchanged for now, even with the upcoming launch of PMS from Dangote Refinery, which will initially provide 25 million litres daily through the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Trading Limited.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is ready to purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), known as petrol, from Dangote Refinery if the price is lower than what they currently pay.

IPMAN president, Abubakar Maigandi, mentioned that his members are interested in buying fuel from Dangote but do not yet know the refinery's petrol prices.

He stated that they will meet with Dangote Refinery and emphasized that they have no plans to avoid products from the refinery, especially if the prices are competitive.

He said, “After a meeting with our members today (Thursday), we are ready to buy Petrol from Dangote Refinery in any condition provided the price is not more than the price we are getting from other places.

OSUN MEDICAL DOCTOR BEGS COURT FOR BAIL.

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, has fixed September 11, 2024 for ruling on the bail application of a medical doctor, Shakiru Olayode, who allegedly raped a teenage girl.
Olayode was arrested by the police in July after the family members of the 18-year-old girl reported the matter.

Ever since, the medical doctor, said to be the owner of Atoke Hospital Igbona, Osogbo, has been languishing in custody.

The Point had reported that the victim, a secondary school graduate, claimed that the medical doctor had promised to offer her a job at his hospital and that he allegedly raped her when he invited her to his house to fill the employment letter.

Olayode was thereafter arraigned on July 25 before Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara on two count-charges of indecent assault and unlawful rape, following which he was remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre.

At the resumption of trial on Monday, prosecuting counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, Mosunmola Ogunkola, filed a preliminary objection to the bail application presented by the defendant’s counsel, Muideen Adeoye.

Chief Magistrate Ayilara then fixed September 11, 2024 to rule on the bail application, while the substantive case was adjourned till October 28, 2024.

Speaking after the court proceedings, chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers in Osun State, Oluwadamilola Olabiyi, said the ministry of justice has filed an information at the state High Court in respect of the case.

Olabiyi added that there is another case of medical negligence, unprofessionalism, damaging of patient’s womb and missing baby against Olayode of which the state Ministry of Justice has also taken over before the same court.

The lawyer holding a brief for the nominal complainant, Tejiri Grace, said the court has provided time for the prosecution team to enable it to get information about the case adding that other necessary steps would be taken after court’s ruling on the defendant’s bail application.
