Chapter 2 delivers hard on many of those fronts. Patch 1.2.0.0, released September 9, 2025, brings in story content, quality‑of‑life improvements, combat and vehicle tweaks, UI upgrades, and a slew of bug fixes.
Here’s what Chapter 2 provides in broad strokes — what it adds, what it improves, and what it signals for the game’s future.
New Story & Content
At its narrative core, Chapter 2 offerings include The Great Convention, a new journey storyline that picks up after “Find the Fremen” and “The Assassins Handbook.” Players wake the Sleeper, forge further into Fremen territory, and continue choosing the path forward in the changing politics of Arrakis.
Then there’s the DLC Journey The Lost Harvest, for those who own the DLC. It requires certain conditions (base in Vermilius Gap, being “watersealed,” etc.), and comes with unique rewards, including the “Treadwheel” and other DLC‑exclusive items.
Empowering the Player: Customization & Convenience
One of the top player frustrations since launch has been limited character customization and rigid UI systems. Chapter 2 addresses this:
A Character Recustomizer room in each social hub (Harko Village, Arrakeen City) where players can alter their appearance. New hairstyle options, tattoos, tattoo tinting, and more colors are now available.
Renaming functionality for vehicles and placeables: helps with base management, organization.
Auto‑run toggle added, so long treks across Arrakis become less tedious.
These are UI & QoL changes that may seem small in isolation, but their cumulative effect is a more polished, player‑friendly game.
Combat & Vehicles: Sharper, Safer, More Flexible
Combat sees several major changes:
NPC accuracy bonus (when in line‑of‑sight) is reduced in time, scaling with NPC tier. This helps reduce the frustrating moments where enemies suddenly become absurdly accurate after hiding behind cover.
Homing rockets now disengage if they veer off too far (90° or more) from target.
Basic rocket launcher gains Lock‑On functionality.
Other tweaks: sprint attacks are easier to aim when surrounded by multiple targets; NPCs activate shields upon spotting a player; targeting adjustments for particular skills.
Vehicles also improved:
Assault Ornithopters boosted: storage slots increased (from 15→20), storage volume doubled (1000→2000).
Ornithopter rockets made more accurate; their trail & flare visuals updated. Targeting and explosion behaviour refined.
World, Explore & Visual/UX Moves
Deep Desert sees several layout changes: more rock islands, smoother cave & shield wall visuals; improved cave performance.
Quicksand between sectors removed to ease cross‑sector travel (foot and ground vehicles). Less disconnection / hitching when crossing boundaries.
Sandworm behavior refined — the breach animations now check for nearby players/vehicles to reduce random deadly surprises.
Visual improvements: lip sync added for certain cinematic projections; sand deformation (footprints, vehicle tracks) more natural; improvements in cloth physics.
Fixes & Stability
Finally, undergirding all these additions are broad bug fixes and stability enhancements: crash fixes (e.g. customization screen), better performance in certain locations (Mysa Tarill, Imperial Testing Stations), improvements to collision and clipping, UI fixes ranging from controller inputs to map marker behavior.
What It Signals
Chapter 2 is more than just a content update. It suggests Funcom is listening: they’re responding to complaints (random worm breaches, base management issues, lack of customization), and are starting to polish the edges. It’s also meaningful that the game is layering in ways for players to express identity (tattoos, hairstyles, naming), not just combat or story.
It’s unlikely that everything is perfect, but these changes raise the baseline noticeably. If the momentum continues (bug fixes, transparency, quality content), Dune: Awakening could be Buy Dune Awakening Items settling into a more stable state of launch + post‑launch support.
