To begin crafting Set Items, you first need to acquire Set Item Shards. These shards are obtained by shattering existing Set Items at a special crafting station called the Forge of Shattering, which becomes accessible after completing the Great Bridge Woven Echo-an endgame activity unlocked through the Woven faction content.

When you shatter a Set Item, it breaks down into shards that retain some of the original affixes and the Set Bonus associated with that item. This process allows you to extract the essence of a Set Item without needing to farm the exact piece repeatedly.

Once you have Set Item Shards, you can craft them onto any compatible item that accepts shards, such as rare or exalted gear. However, the item you craft onto must be of the same base type as the original Set Item shard. For example, a shard from a one-handed sword Set piece can only be applied to another one-handed sword.

Crafting Set Item Shards onto gear effectively creates a "Reforged" Set Item, which grants the Set Bonus and some of the original affixes, but with the possibility to customize other affixes through normal crafting methods. This system vastly increases the customization potential of Set Items, allowing players to tailor gear to their specific needs.

Important Restrictions and Tips:
1. You cannot craft Set Item Shards onto Unique items, as Set affixes and Legendary Potential do not combine buy Last Epoch Gold.
2. Shattered Set Item affixes cannot be used to create Legendary items, so avoid applying shards to items you plan to upgrade into Unique gear.
3. The Forge of Shattering interface allows you to access your stash and shatter Set Items without needing to carry them physically, streamlining the process.
4. You can also purchase additional Woven Echoes from the Woven faction to farm more Set Item Shards efficiently.
