A GIFT PACKAGE ARRIVES THAT MAKES EVERY ONE CURIOUS AND HAPPY. It began on a cold winter morning with the arrival of a small package on every desk at South Print Elementary School. The bright wrapping paper and shiny ribbon got everyone’s attention. The students were curious about what could be inside. The air was filled with hushed whispers and laughter, and they buzzed with anticipation to discover the surprise inside the present they had seen.
The room was all a-buzz when the bell rang and the teacher instructed to open up the gifts. Some students gingerly eased open the wrapping paper with postit note, while others ripped through it at breakneck speed. And tucked inside each bag was an extra special gift picked out just for them by their Secret Santa. It was a magical moment as the students found trinkets, toys and treats that brought smiles to their faces.
Feel good about giving (and receiving) surprises is the whole point of Secret Santa. The concept was simple: each student drew a classmate’s name out of a hat, then secretly purchased or made a present for them. It was a way to help spread kindness and cheer in the holiday season. The joy of both giving and receiving surprises could be seen on each and every student’s face as we passed out our presents. And I enjoyed the exchange and seeing these wonderful gifts shared and the happiness they spread.
The special gift exchange brought classmates closer to each other. And they not only brought the students joy, but also promoted unity between them. It was an opportunity to be kind and say thank you.’ It could have been a friendship bracelet, a beloved book or a favorite treat, but each gift symbolized friendship. The special exchange was a reminder the thought behind a gift is sticky notes what counts.
The unwrapping of the presents revealed heartwarming pairings of classmates. Warmth filled the students as they unwrapped their final gift, when the wrapping paper blanketed the floor. They discovered that the biggest surprises aren’t always the grandest gifts but the most heartfelt. It is through the simple giving and receiving that connections were forged between classmates. It taught them that true friendship and kindness are the best gifts of all.
